Band Hero for home consoles and Nintendo DS primarily features pop, pop rock, and other family-friendly music with plenty of rock music that aren't too "heavy" or "intense" that Guitar Hero video games would normally have.
Despite sharing the same video game title, however, Band Hero for home consoles and Band Hero for Nintendo DS are entirely different games. Outside the songs "Fascination", "She Will Be Loved", "Take What You Take", and downloadable songs compatible with Band Hero for home consoles, neither share any other on-disc/on-cartridge songs together. However, Band Hero for Nintendo DS does feature some songs previously featured in other Guitar Hero video games. Band Hero for Nintendo DS also features two different setlists based on the region (North America and Europe/Australia), both having similar songs with some exclusives among them.
List of songs[]
Console setlist[]
Main setlist[]
The console Band Hero features more than 65 songs from "mainstream acts", according to MSNBC. Since Band Hero's targeting audience was aimed for younger audiences, not there aren't many challenging songs on disc for Guitar, Bass, or Drums (no on-disc songs has Expert+ difficulty), but there are plenty of challenging songs on Vocals. The game also allowed downloadable content from Guitar Hero World Tour to be used within Band Hero, until April 1st, 2014 when the export was made unavailable. In addition, some on-disc songs from both Guitar Hero World Tour and Guitar Hero: Smash Hits were be importable into Band Hero and Guitar Hero 5 for a small fee, with music licensing limiting those that cannot be transferred.
Career mode in the PlayStation 2 version has a different ordering for each instrument than in the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii versions.
Like with Guitar Hero 5, Band Hero for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Wii features a single Career mode progressible with any instruments with each song featuring a specific instrumental or Band-play Bonus Challenge. Songs in Quickplay also list songs' information like genre, song length, intensity ratings (Band intensity found within game files), and new to Band Hero, a description of artists' songs under the "Did You Know?" subtitle above the song info box. A majority of these songs can also be imported to Guitar Hero 5 and Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock for a small fee. Few songs imported to Warriors of Rock have a change in song info like genre.
|
While sharing the same on-disc songs as the other home console versions (minus the lack of GHTunes example songs), the setlist in the PlayStation 2 version of Band Hero in Career mode are arranged for each instrument and Band play, just like in Guitar Hero World Tour, its expansive titles, and Guitar Hero 5 on PlayStation 2. As such, the PlayStation 2 version of Band Hero doesn't feature Bonus Challenges in Career.
Additionally, as Quickplay's song selection screen is designed similar to the World Tour-styled games' song selection screens, the PlayStation 2 version doesn't list additional song information like genre, song length, or instrumental intensity ratings or the "Did You Know?" song description.
GHTunes examples[]
Band Hero for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii comes with 6 premade GHTunes custom songs composed or arranged by Neversoft. These songs also appeared as premade GHTracks examples in Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock. As the GHStudio feature isn't available in the PlayStation 2 version of Band Hero, these GHTunes example songs are not available in the PlayStation 2 version.

Importable songs[]
Like Guitar Hero 5, 35 of the songs from World Tour and 21 from Smash Hits were importable into Band Hero for a small fee (approximately $0.10 per song), and are treated as downloadable content for the game; the World Tour export was available on release, while the Smash Hits export was available a few days afterwards.[2][3][4][5] Additionally, 69 songs from Guitar Hero 5 are importable to Band Hero and even 61 Band Hero songs can be imported to Guitar Hero 5.[6] All transferred songs also worked in Band Hero.[2] The transfer process required the player to enter a unique code from the World Tour, Smash Hits, or Guitar Hero 5 manual to access the ability to redownload all available songs as a pack (on the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3) or individual songs (on the Wii) that had been updated to include the new features. Players on the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 could delete individual songs after downloading the pack.[7][8] The songs that are not transferable are due to licensing issues, and are not due to technical issues, according to Director Brian Bright.[9]
39 songs from Guitar Hero: Metallica became importable on September 28, 2010, priced at 480 Microsoft Points, $5.99, and 600 Wii Points respectively.[10] These were the last downloadable songs made available for Guitar Hero 5 and Band Hero before any further DLCs were made specifically for Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock. However, songs from Guitar Hero: Van Halen never became officially importable for Guitar Hero 5, Band Hero or Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock.[11]
Downloadable songs[]
- Main article: Setlist in Guitar Hero 5 § Downloadable songs
Band Hero and Guitar Hero 5 share the same downloadable content, and they are also forward-compatible to Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock with some songs' information updated on Warriors of Rock for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Downloadable content are installed under Guitar Hero 5's installed DLC data but Band Hero can directly read them. In addition, 152 of the current 158 downloadable songs for Guitar Hero World Tour were forward-compatible with Guitar Hero 5 and Band Hero; the existing content was automatically upgraded to include all features new to these games.[12][13][2]
Nintendo DS setlist[]
The Nintendo DS version of Band Hero feature an entirely new setlist of 30 songs of the same genre as the console-based soundtrack but nearly half of the songs are exclusive to each regional release and many are returning songs from other Guitar Hero titles with a few being from the console version of Band Hero.[14][15] Band Hero on Nintendo DS does not feature a Career mode so all songs for each regional game are unlocked from the start, listed in alphabetical order when picking a song from the setlist.
