Venues are locations (or "stages") where the player's rocker or band plays their music at, surrounded by a crowd. It's not to be confused with tiers (setlist tiers, known as "gigs"), which determines the level of difficulty for a setlist of songs played at a venue. However, by Guitar Hero World Tour, most newer games use the venue name as the setlist tier name.

Backstage Pass titles[]
In Guitar Hero III: Backstage Pass and Guitar Hero World Tour Mobile: Backstage Pass for mobile phones, gigs can be played at venues during nighttime and completing a gig ends the day. Any other time of day, the player can do other activities at a venue (depending on game) including leafleting to earn Buzz, busking to earn some money (GH3:BPS), watching other bands' gigs and possibly recruit band members (GHWTM:BPS), duel against another bands' guitarist in an Axe Battle (GHWTM:BPS), rehearsing songs (GHWTM:BPS only as GH3:BPS uses Homes to rehearse) or checking requirements to do a gig if not available.
To play a gig at a venue in the Backstage Pass mobile titles, songs would need to be rehearsed until their Rehearsal level matches a venue's star level, then they are qualified to be played at the venue if other requirements are achieved (such as the amount of Fame the player needs).
In a gig at a venue, the player plays the Fret Frenzy minigame for a minute (instruments cycle in Guitar Hero World Tour Mobile: Backstage Pass when new band members are unlocked and difficulty of the chart depends on the venue's star level), then the player plays other gig minigames (the type(s) and amount of minigames depends on the venue's star level) and then the Finale! The player will then be given a Fan Reaction of 0 to 5 Stars based on their overall performance in all participated minigames.
Guitar Hero Live[]
Guitar Hero Live features two music festivals in its Career mode including Rock the Block and Sounddial. Rock the Block music festival has four venues and Sounddial has three venues, and each venue are played by one or two in-game stage bands with their own setlists of songs.
