For Guitar Hero, Guitar Hero II, and Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80s, tap the fret at the main menu. For remaining Guitar Hero games, go to the Options, Cheats, and then Enter Cheat. The following list below shows the abbreviations of the fret colors for the cheats.

  • G = Green,
  • R = Red,
  • Y = Yellow,
  • B = Blue,
  • O = Orange.

If notes are bunched, two or more frets should be held down during the same strum (Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock & Guitar Hero: Aerosmith only). Guitar Hero World Tour and any newer games don't have chords and have 8 digits to input codes.

Guitar Hero

In Guitar Hero, to activate cheat codes, you must tap the buttons at the Main Menu. There are combinations of buttons you can tap in from Yellow Fret to Orange Fret.

Guitar Hero II

In Guitar Hero II, to activate cheat codes, you must tap the buttons at the Main Menu just like Guitar Hero. Unlike Guitar Hero, Guitar Hero II loses Rock Meter Stays Green, Hero Guitar, and Skull Head Crowd cheats. However, Guitar Hero II obtains 4 new cheats: Flaming Head, Horse Head, Hyper Speed, and Performance Mode. The Playstation 2 version have the Unlock All cheat but the Xbox 360 version have the Unlock All Songs cheat. There are combinations of buttons you can tap in from Yellow Fret to Orange Fret. But for the Unlock All and Unlock All Songs cheat, the Red Fret is also involved.

  • This cheat disables game save.
  • IMPORTANT: (Auto) Game Save feature must not be pre-disabled. Specifically, when game dvd is booted the system checks for presence of PS2 memory card; if none found the option is given: Continue play without game save? Yes/No. If “Yes” a second option is given: Disable auto-save? Yes/No. If you choose “Yes” (which you would normally do if playing without a mem card, because after each completed song the game hangs up while trying to auto-save the performance stats to an empty port) the cheat code above (and only the above cheat) will not work. If planning on using this cheat; choose “No” then continue to the Main menu (the one where you choose: Career mode, Quick Play, Options, etc.), tap in the code. Once code is accepted; confirmation in white lettering appears stating that the Unlock cheat is active and that game save feature is disabled.

After message disappears, you are able to play any song you want in either Career mode or Quick Play mode, however you can only play the songs normally available within the particular mode; which means that more songs are available in Career Mode. Also, you can directly choose to play any/all songs in easy mode the first time around, which I believe is not normally possible to do on certain songs until you have invested a lot of time into the game. It seems to me that especially in the case of encore songs you must first play them in at least the Medium skill level because the song which precedes it doesn’t seem to initiate an encore song at all, unless it is played at the medium skill level or above. I do not believe it is possible to change skill levels between an encore song and the associate song.

In Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80s, to activate cheat codes, you must tap the buttons at the Main Menu just like Guitar Hero and Guitar Hero II. have the same exact cheats as but in different combinations. These cheats might also work with the PAL Version, the European Version. There are combinations of buttons you can tap in from Yellow Fret to Orange Fret. But for the Unlock Everything cheat, the Red Fret is also invovled.

Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock

Unlike the classic Guitar Hero games, Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock features a Cheat Menu in the Options Menu, which means that you won't be playing notes from the main menu. Also, all 5 Frets are involved and can involve playing chords. The Flaming Head, Horse Head, and Monkey Head Crowd cheats are lost in this game. But there are new cheats in this game. There are Bret Michaels Singer for the Personal Computer, Playstation 3, and Xbox 360, Easy Expert, Large Gems for the Playstation 2 and Wii, and Precision Mode. Also, the Rock Meter Stays Green cheat comes back from Guitar Hero but known as No Fail.

Hyperspeed

  • The number represents how faster the scrolling speed of the highway will be.
  • When using this cheat, this cheat is recommended to be set to 2 for balance.

  • HINT: This cheat can easily be memorized to do, by memorizing the phrase, "Oh, boy! Oh, boy!"

  • HINT: In the Xbox 360, after putting in this code, go into the Store on any Career Mode and you will unlock every Store achievements (Axe Collector, Burnin' a Hole in Your Pocket, Got 'em All, and Track Master).

Guitar Hero: Aerosmith

Guitar Hero Aerosmith also have a Cheat Menu just like Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock. Also, all 5 Frets are involved and can involve playing chords. However, some cheats are gone in this game and there are no new cheats in this game. Cheats that were removed from this game were Bret Michaels Singer, Easy Expert, and Unlock Everything. However, the Playstation 2 and Wii still have the Large Gems cheat.

Just like Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock and Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, Guitar Hero World Tour have a Cheat Menu too. Unlike and Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, Guitar Hero World Tour have 8 digits of combinations to do cheats and chords are not available. will be tapping with the Green Fret to Blue Fret. Orange Fret is not used to enter cheats in this game. Playstation 2's Large Gem cheat has been taken off, No Fail and Precision Mode has been taking off too. But there are a lot of new cheats in this game, which includes Air Instruments, which replaces Air Guitar, Always Slide, AT&T Ballpark, a venue, Extra Line 6 Tones! for Personal Computer, Playstation 3, and Xbox 360, Flame Color, Gem Color, Invisible Rocker, Star Color, and Vocal Fireball. The Unlock All Songs cheat has been replaced with Quickplay Songs that you can toggle on/off. Also, some cheats unlocks hidden rockers that can only be unlocked by cheats: Aaron Steele, Jonny Viper, Nick, and Rina.

Just like Guitar Hero World Tour, Guitar Hero: Metallica also shares the same type of Cheat Menu where you press Green Fret to Blue Fret and cheats are only 8 digits long. The 4 hidden characters and AT&T Ballpark venue from Guitar Hero World Tour isn't in Guitar Hero: Metallica but Guitar Hero: Metallica have two new cheats: Always Drums Fill and Metallica Costumes. Also, the Quickplay Songs cheat isn't in the game since all the songs in the setlist are already unlocked. The cheat codes from Guitar Hero World Tour are the same combinations for Guitar Hero: Metallica.

Guitar Hero 5

Guitar Hero 5 has new cheats. All the cheats may not have been posted yet but their are new cheats and they are All HOPOs, Contest Winner 1, HUD Free Mode, and All Characters. There is one pseudo-cheat, a fake cheat, called Absolutely Nothing that is used as a joke. The cheat from Guitar Hero has came back except renamed as Focus Mode but instead of the band being only visible, the entire background is black. Since the Music Studio has been upgraded and there are different Guitar Effects, the Extra Line 6 Tones! cheat is gone.

These cheats are located in the Options menu of your Band setup options. They are separated in Extras (for modifiers) and Cheats (for actually cheating in the game). Cheats that are located in "Cheats" (not Extras) can't work in Career Mode, online play or to unlock any achievements and you can't get any cash rewards.

  • No Fail, Free Drum (which was called Always Drum Fill), and Hyper-Speed cheats are preloaded in the game so they don't have any codes.
  • The Absolutely Nothing cheat was just thrown in the game was used as a "joke."

Absolutely Nothing

  • This pseudo-cheat (fake cheat) was used as a "joke."
