The Rock Meter starts in middle green in an encore song.
An encore by definition is a demand for repetition or reappearance made by an audience.[1]
Mechanics[]
In the Guitar Hero series, starting in Guitar Hero II, an encore song is a locked song in a tier's or venue's setlist that is unlocked after either playing all other available songs in the tier/venue or after acquiring a certain number of stars in Career mode. In most games (excluding those that require stars), the player has the option to play the encore song right after completing most or all other songs in a Career tier. When the player accepts an encore after completing a song, there will be new stage effects animation before the start of the song and the Rock Meter always starts at the middle-green position instead of yellow.
In Guitar Hero II and Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80s, encores can be played when 3 of the 4 opening songs are completed on Medium or all of the 4 opening songs are completed on Hard or Expert. In the Xbox 360 version of Guitar Hero II, there is an achievement for refusing to play an encore song ("Rock Snob Award" achievement).
In Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock, encore songs can be played when all of the opening songs but one are completed on Easy or Medium or when all of the opening songs are completed on Hard or Expert.
In the rest of the games, on any difficulty level, encore songs can be played when all of the other songs are played or when the player achieves certain number of Career stars. Guitar Hero 5 and Band Hero for home consoles would often have between one to three songs locked in a setlist until a certain number of Career stars is obtained.
