GHTV is an online game mode in Guitar Hero Live. GHTV contains music videos of songs that are streamed over the Internet, rather than being downloaded, and new songs are added to the GHTV setlist every week or so. However, Internet connection is required to access GHTV and even players without PlayStation Plus or Xbox Live Gold can freely access GHTV at anytime, provided if they have Internet connection.

GHTV can be accessed at the main menu or by pressing the GHTV button on the Guitar Hero Live controller at anytime, as a shortcut. The GHTV button can also allow players in GHTV to quickly jump into a music channel with songs that are actively streaming across the Internet.

Music

Playing through songs in GHTV grants the player coins that the player can spend to buy things in GHTV, as well as experience points that allows the player to level up (max level is 20).

Music Channels

Music channels in GHTV are played all day, every day, with songs streaming non-stop. Certain type of music is played at certain time in each channel every 30 minutes with some blocks lasting an hour or so. Players can freely join in a song that currently playing in a channel and play the current section of the song all the way to the end, competing each other for first place. Players can earn coins and experience points by playing songs in music channels without having to spend Play Tokens. In an update on December 14, 2015, players can now add songs they played in the channels to their favorite list, as well as replaying the song they just played.

Rival Challenges

Rival Challenges is a head-to-head competitive mode, similar to Pro Face-Off, for GHTV, released in a patch on December 14, 2015. Rival Challenges is unlocked at Level 10 and can be activated or disabled in the pause menu. While playing through music channels in GHTV, Rival Challenges will automatically activate in two random songs at every half-hour show and the player will be paired with an opponent of similar skill level, competing against each other during the song. The winner of a Rival Challenge battle will gain an extra 100 Status XP.[1]

Music Catalog

Besides playing songs in music channels, which are played randomly, players can choose songs they want to play in GHTV. However, choosing a song the player wants to play costs a Play Token unless if the player has a Party Pass active. No Play Token refunds are given to players who quit during a song and the player doesn't earn coins or experience points from quitting.

In a patch on December 14, 2015, songs can now be added into a favorite list, giving the player a quicker access to their favorite songs. Finishing a song in a music channel will give the player an option to favorite a song before the next song starts.

GHTV Premium

GHTV Premium Shows are a set of songs that can be accessed a played by either spending Hero Cash, playing three song requirements while achieving their goals, or obtaining a Party Pass for the day. Usually after premium songs expire, they'll end up in the music catalog. GHTV Premium Shows are unlocked upon reaching Level 6.

Players who have pre-ordered Guitar Hero Live had free access to Avenged Sevenfold's live recorded songs including Shepherd of Fire", "Buried Alive" and "Nightmare" in GHTV Premium[2][3]. However, these songs were delisted from GHTV on November 5, 2015, which was two weeks after the game release.

Hero Powers and Upgrades

Hero Powers

Hero Powers are the replacement of Star Power. In GH Live mode, Hero Power acts like Star Power as in the multiplier is doubled and it increases the crowd appeal but Hero Power cannot be built up with the whammy bar during a Hero Power section. Hero Power sections usually appear every 30–40 seconds but there is a limit to amount of Hero Power sections are in a single song, but increasing Hero Sections upgrade increases the maximum amount of Hero Power sections appearing in songs.

In GHTV, there are all sorts of Hero Powers, with Clear Highway being the default Hero Power in GHTV. Players can unlock and buy other Hero Power Packs in the Store but unlike Clear Highway, which has infinite uses, the other Hero Power Packs have limited usage and activating a non-Clear Highway Hero Power will consume the selected Hero Power's usage. Before the player starts playing a song, the player selects which Hero Power to use but the player can change Hero Powers at any time. But if a player's chosen Hero Power runs out, the player's Hero Power will automatically change back to Clear Highway.

When a player levels up and unlocks a new Hero Power, the player will get 5, 10, or 20 at random of that new Hero Power for free.

Level Icon Power Price Effect Note(s)
1 Clear Highway None Removes all immediate notes from your note highway instantly. The notes are counted as hits, which adds to your score, score streak and score multiplier. Default Hero Power with infinite quantity.
6 Dial Up 280 coins for a 5-Pack Temporarily increases the frequency of notes that appear in the note highway (via increasing difficulty level), therefore giving you a chance to increase your score. Hero Power sections are disabled while using this on Expert difficulty.
10 Dial Down 280 coins for a 5-Pack Temporarily reduces the frequency of notes that appear in the note highway (via decreasing difficulty level). This is especially effective during difficult portions of the song to maintain a big score multiplier. Hero Power sections are disabled while using this on Casual difficulty.
13 Double Multiplier 350 coins for a 5-Pack Your score multiplier will double for the duration of the Hero Power. This is essentially Star Power.

Coins are common currency in GHTV that can be earned by playing and finishing songs. 1,000 coins can be earned upon a level up. Coins can be used to buy anything except for premium and exclusive content. The following table lists how many coins a player can earn from completing each standard.[4]
