GHWT - GHTunes

GHTunes menu in Guitar Hero World Tour.

GHTunes (known as GHTracks in Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock) is an online music service for uploading and downloading custom songs made in Guitar Hero World Tour and newer console Guitar Hero games's Music Studio/GHStudio up to Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock. This online music service was available for all platforms except PlayStation 2 but players could still make custom songs locally in the Music Studio/GHStudio.

Currently, the servers for GHTunes and GHTracks are offline and songs can no longer be uploaded or downloaded from the server but players can still create custom songs offline in the Music Studio for personal use.

Submitting and download songs[]

While GHTunes servers were online, players could submit their custom-made songs to the GHTunes servers and download other players' creations. Unfortunately, the GHTunes service is not cross-platformed so a song submitted on GHTunes through a PlayStation 3 video game console could not be downloaded on an Xbox 360 or Wii video game console.

History[]

GHTunes and the Music Studio in general was a revolutionary feature of the Guitar Hero series since Guitar Hero World Tour's release of 2008 after the introduction and popularity of Guitar Hero-inspired computer games such as Frets on Fire and Freetar that were hit with the "custom song" scene in 2006 and 2007. Over thousands of songs were submitted to GHTunes over the years.

In Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock, released in September 2010, GHTunes in that game was rebranded to GHTracks.

GHTunes was discontinued in August 2011, which prevented players from downloading or uploading songs from or to GHTunes, which also made it impossible to complete achievements related to uploading or downloading GHTunes tracks. However, a petition was made by users of TrueAchievements in July 19, 2013[1] to have Activision and Neversoft restore the GHTunes servers and the GHTunes servers for Guitar Hero World Tour was back online in July 30, 2013 for a while.[2]

However, GHTunes seemingly shutdown by Activision again "for good" a few months before Guitar Hero Live was released in 2015, but have been back online inconsistently.[3]

On March 1, 2019, GHTracks server for Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock on Xbox 360 seemingly shutdown.[4]
