Guitar Hero: Metallica is the third spin-off title, and the second title based on a specific band in the Guitar Hero series. It is based around the influential American thrash metal band Metallica.
List of songs[]
Main setlist[]
The game includes 49 tracks, 28 which are Metallica's songs, the other 21 are by bands Metallica played with, inspired Metallica, influenced Metallica, or songs that Metallica covered. Since September 28, 2010, 39 songs from Guitar Hero: Metallica became importable as playable tracks for Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock for 480 Microsoft Points (Xbox 360), $5.99 (PlayStation 3), and 600 Wii Points (Wii).[1]. However, these are not importable to Guitar Hero 5 or Band Hero.

GHTunes examples[]
Returning from Guitar Hero World Tour is the Music Studio song-creating feature where players can create their own custom songs for Guitar Hero: Metallica and share their musical creations online with other players of the same platform through the GHTunes music service. GHMix in Guitar Hero: Metallica has received some minor improvements for the user experience, fixing some bugs when making custom songs since Guitar Hero World Tour.
Guitar Hero: Metallica for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii features 8 new premade GHTunes on-disc examples, created by Neversoft. These premade custom songs are not available on PlayStation 2 as the PlayStation 2 version of Guitar Hero: Metallica does not feature the Music Studio. A majority of GHTunes example songs in Guitar Hero: Metallica are metal genre and the charting quality of these example songs have improved since World Tour's example songs.

Death Magnetic DLC[]

- See also: The Stone Nightclub
The 2008 Death Magnetic album DLC for Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock and newer main series titles can also be accessed in Guitar Hero: Metallica. "All Nightmare Long", which shares the same note chart as Guitar Hero World Tour and newer titles, is already part of the main setlist in all versions of the game in the fifth band venue Damaged Justice Tour so the Death Magnetic DLC will not duplicate it and won't appear in The Stone Nightclub. The rest of the Death Magnetic album songs—once purchased and installed—can be found in its own ninth tier/venue, The Stone Nightclub.

Since the PlayStation 2 and Wii versions of Guitar Hero: Metallica don't have have the Death Magnetic album DLC, "Broken, Beat & Scarred", "Cyanide", and "My Apocalypse" were included on-disc in those versions of the game in the ninth tier The Stone Nightclub as "bonus" songs.
Meanwhile, the instrumental song "Suicide & Redemption" was split into two versions, exclusive in the Death Magnetic album DLC: A version with the full guitar solo performed by rhythm guitarist James Hetfield ("J.H."), and a version with the full guitar solo performed by lead guitarist Kirk Hammett ("K.H."). In the official retail album release, the first half of the guitar solo was performed by James and the second half was performed by Kirk.
