The Guitar Hero World Tour Wireless Drum Controller was first introduced in Guitar Hero World Tour on October 27, 2008. It features three drum pads, two cymbal pads, one kick pedal and two drumsticks.

The design of the drum kit was created by John Devacka (creator of MTV Drumscape). The design resembles that of a standard drum kit. The kit is velocity sensitive (able to detect pressure), which is featured within gameplay with accent notes. MIDI drum kits are required to be routed through the controller's MIDI ports before use.

A second kick pedal with an 3.5mm audio Y-cable connected to the drum kit and the two kick pedals are recommended to be able to play Expert+ difficulty in Guitar Hero: Metallica and newer titles.

Differences with Rock Band drum kits[]

There are some key differences between the Guitar Hero drum kits and the Rock Band drum kits.

Design[]

After building the drumkit, the wireless drum controller has two raised yellow and orange cymbals and three RBG pads, while the Rock Band drum kit has 4 RYBG pads), plus the Pro Cymbals attachment (for Rock Band 2, The Beatles: Rock Band, or Rock Band 3 drum kits) gives the Rock Band drum kit 3 YBG cymbals. Each drum kit also supports a kick pedal for bass drums (P).

Input functions[]

While sharing similar inputs from the left to right on both types of drumkits, some exceptions were made between the two types of drum kits between Rock Band's 4-lane Drums gameplay and Guitar Hero' 5-lane Drums gameplay.
