Guitar Hero World Tour Mobile is the third entry of the Guitar Hero Mobile game series developed by Hands-On Mobile using codebase engineered by MachineWorks Northwest LLC[1] and published by Hands-On Mobile for mobile devices with J2ME in November 2008, and was later ported to Android in March 4, 2009, BlackBerry possibly on April 16, 2009,[4] Windows Mobile sometime in 2009, and the N-Gage gaming service for Nokia Symbian S60v3 devices (and S60v5 for N97) on August 27, 2009.[5]

Guitar Hero World Tour Mobile includes 15 songs with the core game and new songs were released each month as downloadable content. However, for N-Gage users, the full game for S60's N-Gage service is no longer accessible when online servers were shut down but the game can still be played in trial mode with only the first song playable in trial mode for both Guitar and Drums. Also, the Android version is no longer accessible as it must connect to the game servers, requiring Internet connection and the game server to be online.

Guitar in Guitar Hero World Tour Mobile with Star Power activated.

Like its mobile prequel Guitar Hero III Mobile, there are three lane of notes: Green, Red, and Yellow, and notes are now aligned with the beats of the highway. In addition to Guitar, Guitar Hero World Tour Mobile has Drums as a playable instrument. The Drums track has a fourth note in form of a purple line, representing bass drum kick.

On Guitar, the controls are as followed:

  • Hit green notes: 1, 4, or 7
  • Hit red notes: 2, 5, or 8
  • Hit yellow notes: 3, 6, or 9
  • Activate Star Power: *
  • Pause: Right soft key

On Drums, the controls are:

  • Hit green note (snare): 1 or 4
  • Hit red note (hi-hat/high tom): 2 or 5
  • Hit yellow note (ride & crash cymbals/low tom): 3 or 6
  • Hit purple line (bass drum): 7, 8, 9, or 0
  • Activate Star Power: *
  • Pause: Right soft key

Star Power can be acquired by successfully completing Star Power phrases and there is no whammy button to acquire more Star Power from sustained notes. Star Power can be activated when at least 50% of the Star Power meter is filled and will double the score multiplier when it's activated until it runs out.

Battle Mode in Guitar Hero World Tour Mobile's online multiplayer.

The game also supported online multiplayer and online leaderboard support when the servers were online. Servers are currently offline.

Depending on the version of the game, Guitar Hero World Tour Mobile features two returning playable characters from Guitar Hero III Mobile that can be selected in the Options menu: Axel Steel and Judy Nails. After selecting a character, you can select one of four guitar colors that are available from the start: Blue, red, black, and white. However, characters and guitars don't appear in the lower-quality J2ME releases.

The only unlockables in the game (not available in some low-quality J2ME versions) are 8 trophies (or 11 "Point Pickups" in the N-Gage port) that can be unlocked by completing tasks. Players that play the N-Gage version on Symbian S60v3 or S60v5 devices that are signed into the N-Gage gaming service can earn N-Gage Achievement Points (NGP) by unlocking these in-game trophies when the servers were online.
