Java 2 Platform, Micro Edition (Java 2 Micro Edition or J2ME for short), as it was formerly called—current version being Java Platform, Micro Edition or Java ME—is a mobile computing platform made in the Java programming language for cellular devices. This mobile platform was developed by Sun Microsystems and was acquired by Oracle Corporation in 2010.
Mobile platform comparisons[]
While other mobile operating systems such as BlackBerry and Android had a small selection of Guitar Hero Mobile games, every game of the Guitar Hero Mobile series was available on the J2ME platforms (as well as BREW) as it was easy to develop for these mobile platforms and many cellular devices in the mid-2000s and the early 2010s (from brands like Siemens, Nokia, Motorola, and more) ran on the J2ME mobile platform or were compatible with J2ME apps that at least supported MIDP 2.0 (JSR 118) such as devices that run on the Symbian S40 or S60 platform or Samsung's proprietary mobile platforms.
However, some games like Guitar Hero 5 Mobile and Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock Mobile have better graphics and audio quality on Android and Windows Phone than they do on J2ME and even some earlier titles like Guitar Hero III Mobile benefited on BREW, BlackBerry, or Windows Mobile.
