S60 (formerly Series 60 User Interface) is a discontinued software platform created by Nokia for smartphones that runs on top of the Symbian operating system. Java ME games and applications are natively compatible on it. Nokia has also developed an online gaming service for S60v3 devices (and few S60v5 devices) in 2008 called N-Gage (also known as N-Gage 2.0), an online mobile gaming service serving as the successor to their N-Gage gaming smartphone.

Only one Guitar Hero Mobile video game was released for the N-Gage gaming service for S60 devices, which was Guitar Hero World Tour Mobile. Guitar Hero World Tour Mobile was originally developed by MachineWork Northwest and published by Hands-On Mobile in November 13, 2008 for J2ME and BREW and was last ported to the N-Gage service on August 27, 2009.

The N-Gage service port of Guitar Hero World Tour Mobile featured new trophies (as "Point Pickups") that can be unlocked both in-game and for the N-Gage's Point Pickups achievement system (earning points for the player's N-Gage account), online multiplayer, and online leaderboards. While Nokia S60 devices that support the N-Gage service can play both the J2ME and N-Gage versions of the game, the N-Gage version is the better version with these updated features.

It was released as a free trial on the N-Gage Application marketplace (only "Are You Gonna Go My Way" playable in Guitar and Drums in the trial version) but the full game was able to be purchased in-game with online connection. Unfortunately, the N-Gage online service shutdown on October 2009, making it impossible to purchase and access the full game today. However, the full J2ME version is not locked behind an online in-app purchase, making the J2ME version a more accessible version for S60 phones and any other Java-supported mobile devices with MIDP 2.0 or better API.

Notes
  • Despite sharing the same name, while the original Nokia N-Gage gaming smartphone had an online service called N-Gage Arena, it does not support the N-Gage 2.0 gaming service that the above Nokia devices can use, therefore the N-Gage service version of Guitar Hero World Tour Mobile is not playable on it. The N-Gage gaming service application requires Version 3 of the Symbian S60 operating system (S60v3) to install and use with few S60v5 devices supporting it. The Nokia N-Gage gaming smartphone runs on Symbian S60v1.
  • Furthermore, while the Nokia N-Gage gaming smartphone does support J2ME apps and games, it only has a Java API of MIDP 1.0 (JSR 37), which has many limitations including no sound support, meaning that all Guitar Hero Mobile games including DJ Hero Mobile (all which require a Java ME-supported device with an API of MIDP 2.0 at minimum for all size variations) are not playable on the Nokia N-Gage.
