Shirley Manson (full name Shirley Ann Manson; born August 26, 1966, in Edinburgh, Scotland) is the lead singer for the band Garbage and is an unlockable vocalist for Guitar Hero 5, performing on Garbage's "Only Happy When It Rains", from its debut album. For much of her international career Manson commuted between her home city of Edinburgh to the United States to record with Garbage but since 2006, she has been based in Los Angeles. Manson quickly gained media attention for her forthright opinion, quirky looks and unique fashion sense.
Biography[]
Shirley Manson began her musical career in the early 1980s, performing backing vocals and keyboards for Scottish band Goodbye Mr. Mackenzie before being signed in 1993 as a solo artist, recording as Angelfish. After seeing Manson in an Angelfish video on MTV, Garbage drummer Butch Vig (who had previously produced Nirvana's quintessential album Nevermind) invited Manson to record with the band for one album, the multiple Grammy Award-nominated Garbage, in 1995. Manson recorded a further four studio albums (1998's Version 2.0, 2001's beautifulgarbage, 2005's Bleed Like Me and 2012's Not Your Kind of People) and toured worldwide as the frontperson of Garbage, racking up 12 million record sales over ten years.
In 2006, Manson began to write and record solo material after Garbage was put on "hiatus" and in 2008 was cast in her first professional (and regular) acting role on the second and final season of TV series Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles as regular Catherine Weaver, a liquid metal T-1001 Terminator.
Trivia[]
