"The Devil Went Down to Georgia" is a country song by The Charlie Daniels Band. This song appeared in Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock as a speed metal cover by Steve Ouimette and was titled "Guitar Battle vs. Lou" for the Boss Battle in Career Mode. This song can also be downloaded in the free Boss Battles Track Pack in the Xbox LIVE Marketplace and PlayStation Network store, which is free. The DLC version is titled "The Devil Went Down To Georgia".
Some consider it to be harder than "Through the Fire and Flames" (which ironically is the end credits song in-game), or "Fury of the Storm" and "Black Widow of La Porte" in Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock.

Steve Ouimette - Epic (2010 album)
This song cover for audio-listening use was first released on the Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock Companion Pack soundtrack in 2007 and Steve Ouimette later released his cover on the 2010 Epic album along with his other Guitar Hero metal song covers (such as "We Three Kings" and "Dueling Banjos").
History[]
Originally a song composed by The Charlie Daniels Band and released in 1979 on the Million Mile Reflections album, the original song is a country/southern rock song based off the classic stories of a person battling the devil in a form of a challenge, often with an item of incredible value being placed on the line by the devil, where he states he'll give to the challenger if he wins, but stating that if he loses, the devil gets his soul (hence the lyric, "If you win you get this shiny fiddle made of gold, but if you lose, the devil gets your soul.").
Walkthrough[]
Guitar Battle[]
Since this is a battle song, your main objective is to try and hit the Battle Power that shows up. Lou will always activate his powers the second he gets them, but this isn't what you should be doing. Instead, you should save up your power and wait for a very note heavy solo in his section. If you've saved up enough powers and unleash them all at once, he'll slowly fail. Unlike Tom Morello and Slash, Lou doesn't miss as easily, but he shouldn't be able to handle multiple attacks.
There is also a simpler way to beat him. If Lou's first attack is Broken string, Whammy bar, or Lefty/Righty flip (Or difficulty up in hard difficulty), immediately start over (unless you can survive). If he gets anything else, power through it and make sure you get your first power up. If your power up is not the whammy bar or the broken string, start over. Once you have the whammy bar or broken string until Lou is going through the fast "Misirlou"-esque green notes and unleash, causing him instant failure. If you're lucky with the Broken String, his green button will be broken. Be aware that the effect of the whammy bar won't start instantly, but will take about 1 or 2 seconds for it to start so throw it a bit earlier.
Once you've depleted his rock meter, you must finish him off. You will be immediately taken to the last section of the song, and you must simply beat it. This isn't hard, as it is a rather simple section compared to what you've just done. The main thing to remember while battling Lou is to stay calm and make him lose before its time for a death drain and you have to start all over again.
The "Victory Solo"[]
In the battle, you get a part called the "Victory Solo". You have a very long solo with many power ups, and after that is Lou's solo, but his solo is only half as long as yours. The Victory Solo gives you an easy way to beat Lou.
If you manage to defeat Lou before or during the Victory Solo, you get to play the last part of the song with Lou watching and not playing at all.
Rewards[]
Since "Guitar Battle vs. Lou" is the last song in the game on every difficulty, beating it on any difficulty will result in that difficulty's completion.
Upon beating the song for the very first time, one will unlock "Through the Fire and Flames" and then can play it during the credits. During this time the player can miss any number of notes and not fail the song. (NOTE: This song is extremely hard, even on Easy difficulty).
Also, when you beat Lou for the very first time you can buy him in the store. The first time you beat Lou on Easy difficulty you will unlock the Moonshot guitar. On Medium difficulty you unlock the St. George Extraordinaire! guitar On Hard difficulty, Rojimbo guitar is unlocked. If you manage to defeat Lou on Expert, the mother of all awesome becomes yours to purchase, the Distant Visitor guitar, and you are given a hint on how to unlock Precision Mode cheat code ("Rock You Like a Hurricane" Riff x 2 audibly).
DLC version[]
This is considered one of hardest songs in the game, considered by some to well surpass the difficulty of "Through the Fire and Flames", although "Through the Fire and Flames" is the hardest song in the game, and the Guitar Hero series as a whole in most player's minds. This song is frequently called The Devil Went Down to "Gergorge" or abbreviated as "TDWDtG" on the popular Guitar Hero website ScoreHero. It contains about 5 minutes of some of the most difficult solos in the game (rivaling the solos from Fury of the Storm), where players have to play both the Devil's part and their own. Several of the most difficult solo sections include "Victory Solo G", "Victory Solo K", "Victory Solo R" , and the most probable choke point, "Verse 4". This specific chart includes some of the most difficult strumming sections to hit within of the timing window of GH3, including "Georgia Theme Lead 1", and the infamous "Verse 2" which both have strumming speeds on average of an extreme 20 NPS (notes per second).
The DLC version of the song is the same as the normal boss song although it has all of Lou's notes and solos including the Death Drain solo. It is included in a pack with the 2 other boss battle songs, Tom Morello Guitar Battle, and Slash Guitar Battle in a free of charge DLC pack on Xbox Live Marketplace and PlayStation Network.
On December 16th, 2008, GuitarHeroPhenom got the first FC ever, after several attempts, one of them being a 100% overstrum. It was witnessed by hundreds of people at their live stream at guitarherophenom.com. On Feburary 10, 2009, Nationalsnipergh got the second FC ever after many attempts.

Trivia[]
- The Victory Solo O is the missing solo on The Devil Went Down To Georgia; it skips from Victory Solo N to P.
- Charlie Daniels objected to the Guitar Hero III metal cover and the devil occasionally winning in the game.
- When battling Lou, immediately after the lyrics, "And he pulled that bow across the strings at it made an evil hiss," if one looks at Lou's highway, there's a line of yellow and blue notes so close together, it seems as if there's a solid white line running down the corresponding sections of the highway, just like the outro of "Hot for Teacher."
- Just like "Rock You Like A Hurricane", "B***h" is muted.
- This is the only song in-game to have the camera lock in one continuing spot for a boss battle.
