The Keyboardist known as Larry is a non-playable character in Guitar Hero and Guitar Hero II. He occasionally appears alongside the band in instrumental songs.
In Guitar Hero he appears when playing "Frankenstein" by The Edgar Winter Group (as it is the only instrumental song in the game except for "Trippolette"). In Guitar Hero II he appears when you play "Jessica" by The Allman Brothers Band, "Misirlou" by Dick Dale, "YYZ" by Rush and "Jordan" by Buckethead (In "Jordan" he replaces the Bassist).
Appearance[]
The Keyboardist is a long-haired, blond, overweight, mustachioed man. In the first game, he wears a white sleeveless T-shirt with a black "Death By Metal" design, blue jeans, white sneakers and black wristbands. In the second game, the only change to his appearance is his shirt, as he now wears a black T-shirt with a tuxedo design on it.
His keyboard is made by Synthtron (a fictional company) in Guitar Hero. In Guitar Hero II, the same model is used with a Roland (a real company) logo on the back instead.
Background[]
In the Guitar Hero documentary, they say his name is Larry, and that "he is only in the band because he is the drummer's cousin." It was also mentioned in the documentary that they would have made him an unlockable character if time had allowed it. He has not appeared in future games as an unlockable character.
Trivia[]
- The front panel of his keyboard is directly lifted from the Pro-One, a synthesizer produced by the real-world company Sequential Circuits between 1981 and 1984.
- Unlike the main characters (Guitar and Bassist), he doesn't follow along with the soundtrack. He instead just moves his arms back and forth while looking like he's pressing the keys when shown on screen.
- Despite having a keyboardist, there's no feature of the instrument playable in any Guitar Hero games.
- The only way to use said mode is with mods or hacks.
- The other success series, Rock Band, added to Rock Band 3, only to be removed in the next one (Rock Band 4).
