Windows Phone is a series of mobile operating systems developed by Microsoft, famous for their Windows operating system, and the successor to the Windows Mobile operating system. The first iteration of the operating system, Windows Phone 7, was released worldwide on October 21, 2010, and in the United States on November 8, 2010. It runs on the Windows CE 6.0 kernel. It was later succeeded by Windows Phone 8 in 2012, replacing the Windows CE-based kernel of Windows Phone 7 with the Windows NT kernel used by the PC versions of Windows but it was still compatible with Windows Phone 7 games and applications.

In 2014, Microsoft released the Windows Phone 8.1 update, which introduced the Cortana virtual assistant, and Windows Runtime platform support to create cross-platform apps between Windows PCs and Windows Phone. Windows Phone 8.1 was then succeeded with Windows 10 Mobile in 2015, dropping the Windows Phone branding from the title. Active development of Windows 10 Mobile ceased in 2017[1] and Microsoft ended their extended support of their mobile operating system on January 14, 2020.[2][3]

The only Guitar Hero Mobile game released on the Windows Phone operating system (during the release of Windows Phone 7) is Guitar Hero 5 Mobile, which is the latest port of Guitar Hero 5 Mobile, developed and published by Glu Mobile on October 21, 2010 for the Windows Phone operating system.

The Windows Phone port of Guitar Hero 5 Mobile combines the setlist from the original Guitar Hero 5 Mobile release, the four bonus songs from the BlackBerry and webOS ports plus their song replacement in the first venue, and 13 of the 15 songs from Guitar Hero 5 Mobile: More Music edition, all in the base game. Furthermore, all songs in the Windows Phone port and their charts have been extended from two minutes to their full song length, making the Windows Phone port the "definitive" version of Guitar Hero 5 minus the three missing songs.
